How can energy fund OUR future?

February 13, 2012 -- On February 13, 2012 Executive Director Ted Boettner presented at the Annual Conference of the West Virginia Association of Counties on the benefits of an economic diversification fund in West Virginia. Such a fund would provide revenue for the state during times of economic slowdown which can especially hard-hitting to local and county governments and school systems. Estimating the Future Fund

February 10, 2012 -- Executive Director Ted Boettner was invited by the Senate Economic Development Committee to present information on a West Virginia Future Fund. Senate Bill 182 would create such a fund and is under consideration by the committee. He provided data on natural gas production and prices and gave estimates on how much revenue could accumulate in a Future Fund over the next 20 years. View the presentation in PDF format.

Our Priorities, Our State Budget

February 9, 2012 -- On February 7, 2012, Executive Director Ted Boettner presented to attendees of the West Virginia Center on Budget and Policy's Annual Meeting on the state budget. He outlined where the state gets it revenue and what is it spent on, as well as the challenges that lie ahead as West Virginia's business tax base erodes and its population ages. Health Policy Director Renate Pore presents to the House Government Organization Committee

February 2, 2012 -- Health Policy Director Renate Pore presented to the House Government Organization Committee on the West Virginia Center on Budget and Policy's report "Medicaid Made Simple." As health care reform takes shape it is important for state policymakers to understand the importance of Medicaid to many West Virginia residents including the elderly, the disabled and 25% of the children living in the state.
