WVCBP Internship Program
The WVCBP internship program’s mission is to partner with highly motivated undergraduate and graduate students committed to building a shared prosperity in West Virginia through policy change. We prepare interns for the non-profit policy world by training them to conduct rigorous data and policy analysis, develop effective communications strategies, and build financial support for this important work.
Internships are typically project-based and may be available in the following areas: our current policy priorities, communications, and nonprofit management, including development. The WVCBP will also consider sponsoring student-initiated research proposals. The typical length of a summer internship is from mid-May to mid-August, though an internship may be extended across several semesters. Spring and Fall internships are typically unpaid with flexible schedules to coordinate with class schedules.
Does the WVCBP offer paid internships? The WVCBP offers both paid and unpaid internships, depending upon project and staffing needs.
Can interns earn academic credit? We are happy to cooperate with an institution’s requirements for academic credit.
What is the standard intern work schedule? The WVCBP’s hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday with paid sick and vacation days. Interns may work part- or full-time depending on their arrangement with the WVCBP.
What are the requirements? WVCBP interns must be current students at a higher education institution. Applicants who have graduated from an undergraduate or graduate program within the last year are also eligible to apply. Ideal candidates possess a strong grade point average; writing, research, and computer skills; and a commitment to the WVCBP’s mission. Preference is given to candidates currently enrolled in a graduate-level program.
