Crowd Turns Out for Racial Equality Event in Charleston

Farajii Muhammed, a community organizer from Baltimore, urged taking peaceful action, after he described violent protests he witnessed at home.

Muhammed is the youth empowerment program director for the American Friends Service Committee, a Quaker association that promotes peace and equality.

He told attendees about the day of the funeral for Freddie Gray. Gray, a 25-year-old black man, was arrested April 12 following a foot pursuit and suffered a severe spinal injury while in Baltimore Police Department custody. His death a week later resulted in violent protests in Baltimore.
